UCH at loss over dead patient’s identity

THE University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, is trying to unravel the identity of a 75-year-old woman identified as Prophetess Alabi Comfort, who was brought unconscious to the causality section of the hospital by some individuals who later absconded after giving fictitious home addresses.

The woman, admitted to the hospital on February 5, 2008, was suspected to be suffering from diabetes, arthritis and stroke with her loss of weight and her untidy look.

The medical social worker in charge of her case, Mr. Rouhim Adeleke, said the woman died a week after she was placed on Oxygen and did not recover from her unconscious state before the death.

Mr. Adeleke said efforts to trace her relations, based on the information provided by the people who brought to the hospital, failed.

According to him, “we went to Ile Aperin in Ibadan, the address they gave, to ask for the people only to be told by Chief Jire Obisesan, the head of the family, that he was not aware that any of his relations was sick or admitted to UCH.”

He pleaded with the members of the public to assist in identifying the dead woman. The corpse had been deposited at the hospital morgue.
