Nigeria to send military hospital to Sudan

Nigeria has agreed to send a military hospital to Sudan to provide additional support to the African Union-United Nations hybrid force in that country.

According to the Empowered Newswire reports, Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, said this in a report he submitted to the Security Council on Friday.

The report indicated that Nigeria had agreed to sending what the UN calls a Level 11 hospital by the end of March. At the same time, the rotation of the AU forces-which were the only one previously keeping the peace in Sudan have continued, including the deployment of additional battalions from both Nigeria and Rwanda to the AU-UN mission area, from where the forces would now come under the auspices of the new AU-UN force, Ban Ki-moon said.

A level two hospital is considered a medical centre with a higher level of injury urgency ahead of level one hospital but below a level three.

Such a hospital in Nigeria may require the services of a surgeon in additional to other doctors and medical professionals. In all, Nigeria would be providing about 60 people to man the level two hospital.
