Lagos PDP threatens to punish members over parallel exco

Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Demo-cratic Party (PDP) has threatened to take punitive actions against members of the party that decided to form parallel executive committee.

Addressing the press in Lagos, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Muyiwa Collins, said the party viewed the action of its members that decided to form parallel executive council on Sunday as unbecoming and the party had decided to invoke the provision of its constitution which frowned at such action.

He urged members of the party not to be deterred by such action because it was illegal, null and void. Collins maintained that the executive council of the party that was in place still remained intact.
He said the leaders of the party should continue to function in their official capacity and any case of anybody undermining their authority should be reported to the party.

“They should be vigilant and report to the state secretariat, any action or tendency which could be suggestive of undermining the effective discharge of their duties. It is also important to ensure that they are above board in all their leadership roles.

“The pronouncement of a purported parallel executive is illegal, null and void and, indeed, that it seriously offends the spirit and letters of our party’s constitution, the perpetrators will be punished and as expressly specified by our constitution which is supreme,” he explained.
