Standard of Women’s Super Six commended

Women Football Committee, has lauded the standard of play in the current Women’s Super Six which began in Abuja on Thursday.

Gyebgon, a member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) board, told the News Agencyof Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that this year’s competition was an improvement over the previous year.

“ The standard of play is very high because a lot of the girls are already in national clubs and this has added a lot of glamour to the game,” he said.

Gyebgon said the girls were demonstrating good skills and discipline they acquired during training in their clubs.

He said that the committee would ensure that the best team won as the competition would also assist in the discovery of talents to be engaged in other national assignments.

NAN reports that in three matches played last Wednesday,Nasarawa Amazons drew goalless with Pelican Stars of Calabar while Delta Queens of Asaba defeated FCT Queens 1-0 .

The Queens scored the winner through Joy Jegede’s penalty in the fifth minute, while Bayelsa Queens defeated Rivers Angels 2-1.Ugochi Oparanozie’s 17th minute goal was cancelled in the 89th minute by Gloria Iroka of Rivers’ Angels.

Bayelsa Queens scored the winner in the 90th minute through Bella Francoise, a first team player in the Cameroun women football team.

Gyebgon said that the winner of the Super Six competition would be declared the 2008 league winner.
