Nigeria
14.05.2008
THE FIFA inspection
team to appraise the
level of Nigeria’s preparedness for the hosting of the 2009 U-17 World Cup, expected to arrive today in Abuja, has postponed the visit.
Disclosing this to Tribunesports on Tuesday on phone from Abuja was the General Manager, Marketing, of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chief Emeka Iyama.
Chief Iyama noted that FIFA, in a statement sent to the LOC signed by its Executive Director, Communication, Mr. Jim Brown, stated that the visit was postponed due to “variety of other FIFA delegated issues.”
It also noted that a key member of the delegation was being hospitalised hence the need to shift the visit to mid June.
The statement, he said, also tendered apologies to the state governors of the designated venues for the competition adding that the FIFA delegation hopes to meet the same team on ground when eventually it comes in June.
