Incredible! NFA begs Kanu, teammates for Amodu

Photo: Saliu GbadamosiTOP officers of Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Saturday went on their knees, begging Super Eagles skipper, Kanu Nwankwo and his teammates for their co-operation, commitment and support to the newly appointed Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu.

Tribunesports sources informed that the team to London, which included Super Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu, NFA vice chairman, Amanze Uchegbulam, Technical Committee Chairman, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi and secretary to the Super Eagles, Sola Enebi met with Kanu at Marriot Hotel, Portsmouth, England on Saturday.

The source informed that the face saving crew pleaded with Kanu to help solicit support for the new Super Eagles crew.

Kanu, in return, was said to have told members of the team to also reach out to his teammates, saying he can not do it alone.

Tribunesports also gathered that the NFA delegation would meet with other England-based players - John Utaka, Daniel Shittu, Joseph Yobo, Seyi Olofinjana, Mikel Obi, Obafemi Martins and others.

It was also revealed that the NFA used the opportunity of the visit to inform Kanu, as skipper of the team, what the football association has for the team.

It was also gathered that the meeting was held because NFA believes the new era being witnessed in the national team by the appointment of Shaibu Amodu as the Super Eagles chief coach can only be achieved with the support of the players.

The players were however begged to make Nigeria’s qualification to 2010 World Cup and Nations Cup a reality.

The team is expected to cap its journey to England by extending its solidarity to Portsmouth’s Kanu Nwankwo and John Utaka in the English FA Cup final against Cardiff at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
