FRSC expresses appreciation to Tribune

THE new Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Sector Commander in Oyo State, Mr. David Mendie, has expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Tribune for its support for the commission.

Mendie, who paid a courtesy visit to the Tribune House, Ibadan, on Tuesday, said the Tribune had remained a partner in progress with the commission, and as such, made the commission’s work in reaching the public much easier in the state.

The FRSC chief said the mandate of the commission, apart from ensuring safety on Nigerian roads, was to educate drivers.

He said “a lot of drivers in the country feel they are above the law, so they drive anyhow. So it is the responsibility of the FRSC to make sure that the erratic behaviour of a driver does not bring harm to other road users.

“On enlightenment, the FRSC ensures that drivers are trained and retrained, especially for those who had collected their licences a long time ago when there were only a few vehicles around.”

On bribe taking, Mendie said there was nothing of such in the commission “but any officer found collecting bribe from motorists is doing so individually and if such person is caught, it is automatic dismissal.”

Earlier, the Controller, Internal Audit of African Newspapers Nigeria (ANN) Plc., publishers of the Tribune titles, Mr. Dayo Adepoju, had said the Nigerian Tribune would do everything possible to ensure that activities of the FRSC were well reported.

Mr. David Mendie was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Solomon Meremikwu and Mr. Bisi Bakare, while among those who were on hand to receive the FRSC officials were Mr. Dayo Adepoju, Mr. Alex Banjo, Mr. Adeyemi Adeyombo, Mr. Samuel Afolabi, Mrs. Tayo Lewis and Mrs. Ijeoma Adesanya.
