Transport probe: Madueke, CBN meet Senate probe panel

Senate’s investigation of the the transport sector since 1999has kicked off with its adhoc committee interrogating the Minister of Transport, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke and officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Senate spokesman, Senator Ayogu Eze, who confirmed the interrogation of the minister and the CBN, said the adhoc committee had received useful information that would aid the investigation.

The senator stated that the Senate committee was getting in touch with all concerned stakeholders in the sector to get sufficient information ahead of the public hearings.

According to him, the official of the CBN had made useful information to the adhoc committee.

“The meeting with the Transportation Minister has taken place and we have also been able to reach other stakeholders in the financial sector, the Finance Ministry, the CBN, and so far, we have gotten enough materials to assist us to perform that assignment.

“We also know that the probe on FCT is still on-going and is going on very well. Generally, the Senate is working hard for the people of Nigeria.

“Many have asked me why is it that the National Assembly has currently embarked on a lot of probes and my answer to them is that the philosophy was that those who are in position of authority should know that whatever happens, they will be held accountable for their activities and if you know that you will be exposed or called to answer questions later, of course you will be guided in whatever you do to follow the due process and to follow the rule of law,” he said.
