Uniosun releases N12m for doctoral scholarship

The governing council of the Osun State University (Uniosun) has directed the immediate release of N12 million for the special doctoral scholarship prog-ramme for the state indigenes for the 2007/2008 session.

This was contained in a resolution reached by the council at its third statutory meeting held last Thursday at the Ikire campus of the institution.

The special doctoral scholarship programme was designed by the institution to encourage indigenes of the state to pursue an academic programme for two or four years in any university in the world.

Briefing journalists on the decisions reached at the meeting, the chairman of the governing council, Professor Peter Okebukola, said the university had set up a seven-member task force to enforce a June 30, 2008 deadline set by the state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, for the completion of all buildings in the first phase on all the six campuses of the institution.

Professor Okebukola, who was the chairman of the taskforce, said “the taskforce will ensure that all works in progress on building and roads are completed speedily and that the campuses are well landscaped to ensure a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.”
