Robbers raid ex-Kwara gov’s house

ARMED robbers, numbering about 10, on Monday night invaded the residence of the immediate past governor of Kwara State, late Alhaji Muhammed Lawal, along GRA, Ilorin, beating up one of his son’s, a security guard and a gardener and carted away valuables amounting to millions of naira

Sources close to the family told newsmen that the armed robbers stormed the house at about 7.00 p.m., with weapons.

The former governor’s son, (name withheld), who was attacked by the robbers, told newsmen that when the robbers got to the main gate of the house, they told the security man on the duty that he was the one that sent for them but in an effort to confirm their identity, the robbers pounced on the man and forced themselves in.

He said two of the robbers followed the security man to his room where he was asked for his mother’s whereabouts, after which he was robbed.

The victims said the robbers then went to his mother’s room but when they could not get the key, they forced the door open and carted away valuable items.

The spokesman of the state police command, Mallam Tunde Muhammed, while confirming the incident, told the Nigerian Tribune that the incident was already being investigated.

He said what took place at the “Admiralty Villa was purely a robbery attack.”
