Stop humiliating Obasanjo - Rep

NIGERIANS have been urged to stop hurling abusive words at former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

A member of the House of Representatives for Ibadan South West and North West constituency of Oyo State, Mrs. Folake Olunloyo-Osinowo, made the appeal during a press conference in Ibadan.

Olunloyo-Osinowo said Chief Obasanjo is a human being, who is liable to commit errors He is not an angel. He served this country as president for eight years and there is no way he could not have committed an error,” she said.

The lawmaker pointed out that “we have to be fair to Chief Obasanjo in our words, deeds and action. He is a statesman, who should be accorded all honour due to him. Calling for his head for things which have not been verified is totally unfair,” she observed.

She said “no one is sure of all the allegations being levelled against Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. None of the allegations has been proved. Most of them are mere speculation.

It is then unfair to the person of chief Obasanjo and the presidency where he once served to start ridiculing him as if he did nothing positive for the nation in his 8 years tenure.

She dissociated herself from those making a call for the probe of the former president.

“I dissociate myself from the call to probe Chief Obasanjo. Most of these calls have political undertone and sentimental attachment for revenge. I am not part of it.

“Chief Obasanjo is a statesman and has done his best for this country. We don’t need to crucify him,” she said.
