Glo launches Onitsha-Awka-Enugu optic fibre cable

Efforts by Globacom, the Second National Carrier, to improve its quality of service (QoS) and provide excellent telecommunications services to Nigerians got a huge boost on Thursday as it launched the Onitsha-Awka-Enugu section of its Optic Fibre Cable backbone.

The Optic Fibre backbone is an information super highway that transmits voice and data at the speed of light. It also provides large bandwidth for offices and corporate organisations and it is part of the Optic Fibre backbone Globacom is building across the country.

Speaking at the launch in Onitsha on Thursday, Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, said the efforts of Globacom to change the face of telecommunications by providing world class telecom services were not unnoticed.

According to Governor Obi, Anambra had the biggest and largest market after Lagos, hence the launch of the infrastructure in the state had become strategic to commercial activities in the state and the entire Southeast in general.

Obi urged the management of Globacom to continue the good work it was doing in the telecoms industry and that the sky was the limit.

In his speech at the occasion, the acting Chief Operating Officer, Glo Broad Access, Mr. Martins Olowonihi, said the Globacom revolution in the telecoms industry continued with the launch of the Onitsha section of the Optic Fibre backbone.

He said with the inauguration, the government and the people of Anambra State and other neighbouring states will witness a revolution in voice and data transfers.
