Vogts snubs NFA

EMBATTLED Super Eagles head coach, Berti Vogts may have put his job on the line following his refusal to show up for a meeting with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA). The German, according to an official of the soccer-ruling body, was expected back in Nigeria on Monday for a meeting with his employers the following day.

However, the former Scotland national team coach did not show up a development that was said to have infuriated his employers. “Vogts was expected to have returned to Nigeria on Monday and was also expected to hold a meeting with the NFA on the performance of the Super Eagles at the just-concluded 26th MTN Africa Cup of Nations held in Ghana,” a top official of the NFA revealed to Tribunesports.

The source stated that the technical committee of the NFA held a meeting on Tuesday and waited for Vogts to show up but to no avail. He added that the committee was shocked that the German did not show up in person and also failed to send a report having been told to do so if he could not make it. Meanwhile, the committee met with the Minister/Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Barrister Abdurahman Gimba, immediately after its meeting to intimate the commission with the outcome of its meeting as well as Vogts absence at the meeting.

It was also gathered that the NFA will write to Globacom, which is responsible for Vogts salary, to inform it to stop the payment since the German refused to honour a meeting with his employers. Chief Media Officer of the NFA, Ademola Olajire, confirmed that Vogts was expected back in Nigeria on Monday but failed to arrive which has put the tactician in a tight corner as far as his job is concerned.
