TASUED students union president kidnapped

Olayinka Olukoya, Abeokuta - 14.02.2008

The uncertainty that had pervaded the campus of the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu-Ode Ogun State reached a climax Tuesday night with the alleged kidnap of the Student Union president, Mr. Babajide Ajetun-mobi, a.k.a Legacy, by some people suspected to be cultists.

This came barely a few days after the killing of a student of the institution by suspected cultists who had been terrorising the students of the institution for sometime.

The SUG president, a 400 level political science student, was said to have been on his way to Ijebu-Ode from Ijagun campus to pass the night with his sister when he was abducted.

He was said to have left his Ijagun house following information he received that the cultists were on his trail and that they were going to attack him. As a result he quickly left his house but was kidnapped before getting to his sister’s house.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in a telephone interview, the Speaker of the SUG, Mr. Boluwatife Sunday, confirmed the incident that Babajide was abducted by unknown people.

He said “it is true that he has been abducted. They have kidnapped him. Nobody knows where he is. We are all worried. His GSM line has been switched off. We don’t know what is happening to him”

The Speaker said that the police and the SSS had been informed and that he was sure that the security agents were working on the case.

When contacted, Public Relations Officer of the School, Barrister Gbenga Omilola, also confirmed the incident but described the kidnappers as hoodlums.

He said “for about three days now, these hoodlums have been disturbing the peace of the university and its environs. I am assuring on behalf of the university management that the SUG President would be found.
