CAN warns on fake prophecies

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has advised Nigerians to be wary of fake prophecies and visions which are capable of destabilising the country.

The CAN National Secretary, Mr. Samuel Salifu, gave the advice on Sunday in Abuja at a special service to mark the Armed Force Remembrance Day.

“Mr Vice President, Senate President and service chiefs who are here, please be cautious of these people who trade prophecies and pose as prayer contractors,” he said.

“They come and tell you they see this and see that, you too must learn to read your Bible, so that you can see well,’’ he advised them.

Salifu said it was more important for Christian prophets and seers to pray for the country, “than to be selling prophecies around.’’ He said the umbrella Christian body would not hesitate to sanction any of its members found involved in “this merchandise of prophecy.”

He also appealed to Nigerian film makers to stop trivialising the Christian faith and ‘’to respect holy issues.” “Whatever films you are making, ensure that they have the mind of Christ and actors should learn to dress well,” Salifu said.

He appealed to Christian actors and actresses not to do anything that could debase their faith. Mr John Odey, the Minister of Information and Communications, who also attended the service, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the on-going reforms in the film industry were inevitable.

“Critical standards must be maintained and religious issues should be taken seriously, whether in business or social life,” he said. “The film industry is key to the education of the children and training for kids and family, so we expect that the society should learn good behaviours from the films,’’ he said.
