Enyimba’s job excites Shorunmu

FORMER Super Eagles goalkeeper’s trainer,Ike Shorunmu has expressed delight with his recent appointment as the keeper’s trainer of premier league side, Enyimba FC of Aba.

The ex-Stationery Stores of Lagos safehand was recently unveiled as a member of the Peoples’ Elephant’ technical crew alongside fomer Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen.

Speaking on his new appointment, Shorunmu who replaces Aloy Agu in the the Enyimba team told Tribunesports that he was highly elated to grab the job, saying that Enyimba was more or less a national team in Nigeria.

According to him, getting a job with a team like Enyimba, which is a big club not only in Nigeria but also on the African continent, was not a mean feat.

“I am quite happy to have secured a job with a big team like Enyimba which I will liken to a national team. For me, it is a good development and a great challenge to further prove my efficiency as a coach,”declared Shorunmu, who has just returned from a UEFA coaching course in Switzerland.

He promised to bring to bear his new knowledge gained from Switzerland on his new challenge, assuring that, “Enyimba would return to the top as far as the game is concerned in the country and on the continent as well.”

Meanwhile, both Eguavoen and Shorunmu are expected to jet out of the country with the Aba side to Sudan this week to honour a CAF Champions League first leg group stage match against Al-Hilal of Sudan.

The former 3SC goalkeeper assured that the team would return to the country unscathed, adding that he cannot afford to start his assignment with Enyimba on a disappointing note.
