Ike ShorunmuWHILE many Nigerians are apprehensive over the chances of the country's athletes at the forthcoming Beijing 2008 Olympics, President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN),Violet Odogwu-Nwajei, has boasted that her federation would grab three gold medals at the Games.
The AFN president, speaking in an interview monitored on a local radio station declared that she nursed no fear as regards the chances of the country's athletes to perform well at the Games.
While she would not want to join pessimists in writing off the country's athletes to the Olympics, Odogwu-Nwajei expressed optimism that Nigeria would have a successful outing in Beijing.
She dismissed insinuation that poor preparation of the country's athletes would earn the country yet another fruitless trip to the world's largest sporting fiesta. “As far as I am concerned, Nigerian athletes will disappoint doubting Thomasses in Beijing, at least from the AFN side, I am sure of three gold medals.”
