Support Lagos government

The recent uproar, grumbling and reactions by residents of lagos state as regard the workings and necessity of th Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) necessitated this write-up. Although Lagosians have been showing their grievances since the introduction of the BRT buses and the dedication of special driving lanes for the buses by the out-gone addministration due to the fact that most Lagosians did not understand the operations of this project, it is however imperative to educate the populace as regard the operations and benefits of this BRT project.

BRT is an improvement in infrastructure. Obviously, the world is going infrastructural and we are bound to get on the move. Countries like France and Mexico have been practising something similar to this some years ago. The BRT compasses a broad variety of modes like; Express Busess Limited, Limited Bus Ways, Rapid Bus Ways and BHNS (Bus a Hant NIcande Service) in France.

Historically, BRT had been in operation all over the world though names given to the project may differs but they were all aimed at tackling the huge public transport predicament of the populace. Since the project was introduced to reduce the rate of traffic jam all over the state, some part of the road had been demarcated to enhance the free movement of these buses.

In contrast to the intention of most Lagosians that the demarcation of special lane for these buses will worsen the traffic situation in the state, it is believed that the introduction of these buses will reduce traffic conjestion, guatantee safety and meet the mobility need particularly of the less previledge of the Lagos metropolise.

Researchers have shown and confirmed that most road accidents could be attributed to either of these factos: rudimentary driver training, poor driver behaviour, unsafe vehicle conditions, bad roads, threat by traffic enforcement agencies and several others. It is however heartworming to disclose that all these causes of road accidents have been put into consideration by this present administration and have given solution to them through the provision of a motorable and specially dedicated lanes and with well-trained drivers.

For proper governance and in other to enhance more infrastructural development like the intoduction of Light and Heavy Rails as well as the sub-way metro systems later by this administration and provision of some other social amenities, it will be advantageous for all people of Lagos State to join hand with this administration, co-operate with the Government as regard this BRT project so as to make it a huge success and stop the indiscriminate act of vandalizing the BRT dedicated lanes or raising protest against the Government.Long-life BRT, Long-life Lagos, Long-life Nigeria.

Ahmadu Ali’s tenure: A waste to Kogi State

When former president Olusegun Obasanjo chose Dr. Ahmadu Ali as the PDP National Chairman to help him actualise his dubious ambition of third term, we Kogites knew it would be a failed project. The entire tenure of Dr. Ahmadu Ali as P.D.P Chairman was a waste and equally a disaster to the people of Kogi State.

The ongoing political crises that bedevil the state could be attributed to Dr. Ahmadu Ali’s selfish interest to support some of his cronies to be imposed on the people of Kogi State as his anointed candidates. Without doubt, Dr. Ali should be responsible for the current crises which has thrown Kogi State into political bouhaha

When distinguish Kogi State indigenes wanted to contest for the plum position of PDP national secretary zoned to North Central, Kogi State was forced to support Kwara State. This baseless agreement has deprived PDP from having an experienced, intelligent candidate that would reposition the party considering the unique role of the post of secretary in the development of a party that is acclaimed to be the largest in Africa. As Dr. Ahmadu Ali leaves the Wadata plaza office as the chairman of the party, what would he be proud that he bequeated to his state as a legacy? Only crises and political upheaval.

Since the start of political crises in Kogi State, he shamelessly continued to support some individuals in Abuja to circulate distorted publication to tarnish the good image of the ruling party in the state. We hope the final exit of Dr. Ahmadu Ali from the chairmanship of PDP would return peace to Kogi State so that progress that eluded the state would be achieved and his going would be a good radiance to bad rubbish. We say never again.

Bala Nayashi,
Lokoja
