cleared all at stake at the just-concluded first O’jez National Open Table -Tennis Championship held at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.
Leading the pack was Seun Ajetunmobi, who won the men’s singles with a (4-1) 11-6, 8-11, 11-9 and 11-3 to defeat the former national champion, Monday Meroun-toun.
Also, in the female category, Ganiyat Ogundele wasted no time in beatingfher team mate from Union Bank, Laide Atinuke in four straght sets of 11-7, 11-9, 11-4 and 11-8, while Yetunde Thompson and Nike Aroyemi were joint third.
And for their effort, the male champion pocketed N80,000, while Merotoun receieved N60,000 and the female champion smiled to the bank with N60,000 and the runner-up earned N40,000 for her effort as the two joint third receieved N15,000.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the well-attended championship, the sponsor, Mr. Joseph Odebeatu, Chairman/Managing Director, O’jez Entertainment, expressed happiness with the successful completion of the championship, adding that he hoped to see new talents discovered from the championship. He then pledged to continue with the sponsorship of the championship.
