...Team's cameraman attacked

Ganiyu Salman, Kumasi, Ghana - 13.05.2008

Supporters of Ashanti Kotoko of Ghana threw decorum to the wind on Monday as they attacked Dolphins of Port Harcourt cameraman, Idah Confidence.

Despite eliminating the Nigerian team from the CAF Confederation Cup, the Ghanaians ignored fairplay and sportsmanship, abducting Confidence and beat him up.

Aided by two policemen and soldiers, the fans swooped on the cameraman at the VIP stand where he had run for cover.

Leader of delegation, Chief Oyuki Obaseki, Barrister Chris Green and Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Boma Iyayi, as well as other dignitaries watched in total disbelief as Confidence was being beaten and was later taken away.

Besides receiving the beating of his life, Confidence was robbed of his purse which contained about 800 dollars.

When he was eventually released, his captors only returned his video camera without the tape with which he recorded the encounter.

Speaking after receiving treatment, Confidence said he thanked God that he was not killed, narrating how he was abducted and beaten up.
