13.03.2008

The Kwara State government has approved the release of over N1.9 billion for the payment of arrears of pensions and gratuities to all categories of pensioners in the state from 1995 to date.

This is just as the international rating agency, the FITCH International, concluded its financial assessment of the state which placed it on a good standing among the comity of nations.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Razaq Atunwa, disclosed this to newsmen after the executive council meeting at the Government House, Ilorin.

Atunwa said Governor Bukola Saraki had already given approval that the money be immediately paid to the state pensioners of all categories covering arrears on 142 per cent increment and gratuity from January 2007 to date.

He said that the council had also approved a monthly payment of N30 million to the Pension Board to commence payment of gratuity to civil servants as they retire from service.
