Robbers raid bank in Ekiti - Kill one policeman

Wednesday struck at a new generation bank in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, carting away N5 million and killing a policeman attached to the bank.
A police source told newsmen in Ado- Ekiti that one of the armed robbers was arrested by the police after a protracted exchange of gun fire.
According to an eyewitness, the slain policeman, who was said to be in mufty, was reported to have been shot dead in front of a provision shop opposite the bank close to the Ansar-u-Deen Central Mosque in the town.
The eyewitness said some of the robbers, numbering about seven, besieged the bank on the pretext that they were customers, while others took positions outside the bank premises.
The source said the robbers came to the bank around 12 noon and that while the operation lasted, about five of them had gained entry into the bank unnoticed.
Efforts to get the manager of the bank to speak on the robbery attack was not successful as she was not available for comments.
A police source at the state Police Headquarters said the police had commenced investigation to bring the perpetrators of the robbery to justice.
