I’m not afraid of removal of immunity clause - Jang

The Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, has said that he is not afraid of the removal of the controversial immunity clause from the 1999 Constitution, just as he also said that the relationship between him and his predecessor, Joshua Dariye, was cordial.

The Commissioner for Information, Nuhu Gagara, who spoke on behalf of Governor Jang during a visit to the Tribune House on Tuesday, said the governor was in the forefront of the removal of the immunity clause.

Gagara said unlike in the past when some governors frustrated the plan to remove the clause from the constitution, the present crop of governors were actually the people who were uncomfortable with the immunity clause and were making efforts to remove it from the constitution.

He said “Governor Jang is 100 per cent in support of removal of the immunity clause. He is in the forefront of it. This set of governors are not like the past governors who worked against the removal of the immunity clause.”

On his relationship with the immediate past governor of Plateau State, the commissioner said the state government had been friendly with Dariye.

He said the state government had never harassed Dariye, adding that it had no plans to probe the former governor as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was already doing that.
