Obasanjo in Ibadan to attend church service

By Jackson Udom - 13.01.2008

FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo was yesterday sighted in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. It was gathered that the former Nigerian leader was in the state, to honour his bossom friend, His Emminence Sunday Makinde, who today would hold a thanksgiving service to mark his elevation as the Prelate Methodist Church of Nigeria and to the creation of the Diocese of Elekuro of the church.

Governor Otunba Alao-Akala of Oyo State and Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to lead horde of party members to accompany Chief Obasanjo to the ceremony.

Contrary to the belief that Obasanjo’s visit to the ancient city was to intervene in the ongoing impasse between Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu and the Ibadan monarch, the Olubadan of Ibadan, the visit is said to be purely a private one.

Alhaji Adedibu confirmed the presence of the former president to Ibadan, but denied that his visit was to intervene in the face-off between him and the Olubadan.
