Rain disrupts Kotoko, Dolphins match - Game holds today

Heavy downpour on Sunday forced the postponement of the CAF Confederation Cup second round return match between Ashante Kotoko of Ghana and Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt to today.

The match was alraedy on at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, when the heavens open up leading to a heavy rain fall.

This forced the match officials to stop the encounter, ordering both sides to return to the pitch this afternoon for the match.

The development was a blow of sort to the Ghanaians who were leading 1-0 as at the time the game was stopped, meaning that the goal will no more count as the match will start afresh today.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Boma Iyayi, has promised each player 1,000 dollars if Dolphins succeeded in qualifying for the group stage of the competition at the expense of the Ghanaians who need at least a 3-0 win to scale through having lost the first leg 2-0.

The money is an addition to the 10,000 dollars due the entire team if it wins, while another N150,000 awaits the club as match bonus.

However, players of Ashante Kotoko who spoke with Tribunesports expressed their readiness to stop Dolphins, saying that scoring a goal in Sunday`s match had boosted their confidence that they could turn the table against the Nigerian flagbearers.
