JAMB boss wants body to tackle exams fraud

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde, has advocated the establishment of a special commission to tackle exami-nation malpractices in the country.

According to him, the Federal Government should set up a special commission like that of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commi-ssion (EFCC) purposely for examination malpractices.

Ojerinde stated this in Ondo, Ondo State, while delivering a lecture at the special lecture series of Adeyemi College of Edu-cation, Ondo, entitled: “Com-bating Examination Mal-practices: A Battle That Must Be Fought and Won in Public Examinations.”

He said the menace of examination malpractices should be fought from all angles, as the development had negatively affected the standard of education in the country.

The JAMB boss said establishment of the special commission, which would only be saddled with investigating and prose-cuting offenders, would also help to sanitise the system.

He, however, said pen-ding the time such body would be set up, stake-holders should enforce the prosecution of offenders to serve as deterrent to others.

According to him, government should also come up with legislation against the employment and retention in public service of those found guilty of the offence.

Ojerinde said examination bodies should also look inward and design new strategies that could be used to combat the menace.

He disclosed that as part of efforts at reducing examination malpractices at JAMB exami-nations, the board had introduced mobile jammer at the examination centres.
