We won’t sack, Saraki assures teachers

THE Kwara State governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has assured that teachers in the state would not be sacked on account of their inability to measure up to expectation in the examination they are being asked to sit for.

Speaking during the May edition of “Governor Saraki Meets the Press,” the governor said instead, the government intended to train and retrain the teachers to be able to impart qualitative education on the children.

“My administration is laying emphasis on addressing the quality of teachers which is the number one problem in the country,” he said.

Governor Saraki said even with the most beautiful classrooms, without good teachers, education could not move forward, adding that that was why the state government engaged 11 consultants from all over the world to help the state assess and train its teachers.

According to him, the future of the state lied in the education of its children, stressing that countries that had developed well did so because they developed their education.

He assured the people of the state that his administration would establish a university that the state would be proud of.

Dr. Saraki noted that road rehabilitation and re-construction had taken the largest chunk of the money in the past five years.
