Delta LG poll: PDP chairman escapes lynching - Opposition parties reject result

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Delta State, Mr. Peter Nwaoboshi, narrowly escaped been lynched by a nob suspected to be members of opposition parties over alleged malpractices in the local government election.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Nwaoboshi came to Ward 6, Omu Boys Primary School, Ibusa, in Oshimili North Government Area , his home town, to form alliance with the electoral officer, saidto be a PDP card-carrying member, when he was accosted by the mob.

It was learnt that he would have been lynched but for the quick intervention of his orderlies, who reportedly shot sparodiacally into the air to scare the mob away.

In another development, members of opposition parties in the state have rejected the outcome of the local government election held across the state on Saturday.

They claimed that no election was held anywhere in the state, just as late arrival of materials disenfranchised eligible voters in some local government areas.

Prince Obaro Unuafe, who doubles as the chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and Forum of Registered Political Parties in the state, said “there was no election in the state. The whole thing was a diabolical terror unleashed on Delta State by the PDP. In fact, the so-called election was characterised by violence, thuggery and fraud.”
