Gunmen abduct 3-yr-old in Rivers

Bolaji Ogundele, Port Harcourt - 12.05.2008

Unidentified gunmen struck, again, in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Friday evening and abducted a three-year old, Tonye George.

The hoodlums have demanded a N5 million ransom. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the gunmen picked the boy while playing with his peers around his father’s compound in Georgeama, Okrika.

According to the father of the boy, who lamented his ordeal when visited in Okrika on Sunday, the hoodlums had threatened that he would have his son back in “one piece” only if he pays the N5 million ransom.

But the father, who gave his name as Daniel George, said he could not even think of where to get such kind of money, but he wanted his son released to him immediately.

Meanwhile, nothing has been heard about Mrs. Fidelia Chioma, mother of a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Golden Ngozi Chioma, who was bundled out of the classroom of a primary school, where she worked, by gunmen on Friday.

Chioma, who represents Etche Constituency, has appealed to the gunmen who abducted his mother to set her free, even as the police said nothing had been heard from the kidnappers about the woman.
