AC, PDP re-open talks over GNU

TALKS between the Action Congress (AC) and the Peoples Democratic (PDP) over Government of National Unity (GNU) have re-opened. Already, 26 state chapters of the AC have endorsed the move under the auspices of Trust Yar’Adua Forum. The leader of the group and former Organising Secretary of the AC, Alhaji Kabiru Baffa Jauro, told a gathering of the party’s stakeholders in Dutse, Jigawa State, on Friday that it had already opened up “minimal” discussion with agents of the Federal Government to formalise the deal.

Alhaji Jauro, who was received at AVM Ishaq AbdulRahaman farmhouse in Dawakin Kudu in Kano by the state chairman of the party, Ambassador Daudu Suleiman, stated that the development arose from the failure of the national leadership of the AC to work in concert with the view of the majority of party members.

Alhaji Jauro, who led a team of seven other AC chieftains on what he called “sensitisation visit” to the Jigawa chapter, disclosed that his committee was on nationwide tour to brief the branch with the emerging development.

He explained that the group of 26 AC chapters, tagged “Trust Yar’Adua Forum” was satisfied with President Umaru Yar’Adua following the full compliance with the nine-point condition given by the party for joining GNU, stressing that time was ripe to reconsider the party’s position in the interest of national unity.
