8 vie for Emir of Katsina’s seat

EIGHT people are said to be eyeing the emirship seat in Katsina, following the death of Alhaji Mohammed Kabir on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that four of the contenders were the sons of the late emir while the other three were his younger brother and two members of the ruling house.

Among the late emir’s sons in the race are Alhaji AbdulMumin Kabir, the Magajin Garin Katsina and Alhaji Badamasi Kabir, representing Katsina Central in the House of Representatives.

Others are Alhaji Sanusi Kabir, the Secretary of Katsina Emirate Council and Alhaji Aminu Kabir, a retired customs officer.

The other three contenders are Alhaji Abdu Usman, the District Head of Tsagero; Alhaji M. D. Yusuf, a former Inspector-General of Police; and Alhaji Lawal Kaita, former governor of old Kaduna State; and Alhaji Murtala Safana.

The kingmakers, NAN gathered, are the District Head of Malumfashi, Justice Mamman Nasir (rtd); the District Head of Rimi, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nuhu; the District Head of Jikamshi, Alhaji Hamza Usman; and Alhaji Balan Gogo-Sada, the District Head of Dutsin-ma.

One of the kingmakers, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that it was too early to speculate on who will be the next emir.
