‘Awo is like Abraham’

THE sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was at this month’s edition of the Temitope Interdenominational Prayer Group, Ikenne, Ogun State, likened with the father of faith, Abraham, just as the minister at the occasion, Prophetess (Dr.) Christianah Akinrodoye, described Ikenne as “Nigeria’s Bethlehem.”

“Immediately I alighted from my vehicle after entering this compound (Awolowo’s house), I saw a vast land typifying Ikenne as our Bethlehem even if the town is not the biggest in Remoland or Ijebuland or Ogun State or Nigeria,” Prophetess Akinrodoye stated.

She thanked the initiator, prayer group, Evangelist (Dr.) Oluwole Awolowo, for inviting her to minister at the programme, adding, “but for this rare opportunity, I would not have the grace to appreciate the patriarch, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, through whom people like me were able to receive free education from my primary school to grammar school and from there to Teachers’ College and later to the university.”

She charged all and sundry never to observe a minute silence for Chief Obafemi Awolowo because “the sage lives on. It is a pity we always celebrate our dead heroes in Nigeria but I can assure you that Papa Awo lives on as I heard a voice welcoming me into this house as my driver drove into this compound.”

While welcoming Oba Adedeji Onagoruwa, the Alaaye of Odogbolu and his Olori, Ekundayo, into the prayer ground, the prophetess said she was looking forward to a day when Odogbolu Day would be turned to Jesus Day, just as she called on other Obas to embrace Christianity.

“If the political gate of Papa Awolowo could house spiritual gate leading to the birth of Temitope Interdenominational Prayer Group, there is nothing wrong in our palaces embracing Christ,” she said.

In her sermon, entitled Unity, Prophetess Akinrodoye implored all churches and leaders to unite irrespective of denominational differences.

“According to her, “we are all ministers of God with different calls and because no other person can be called Chief Obafemi Awolowo or Pastor Adeboye or Pastor Abiara, every church or leader should only seek to create uniqueness while we work together for the glory of the death and ressurection of Christ.”

She then enjoined the congregation to contribute their quota towards the growth of Temitope Interdenominational Prayer Group.
