FG approves N5.6 billion for civil service college project

THE Head of Service of the Federation, Engineer Ebele Okeke, at the weekend disclosed that the Federal Government has approved N5.6 billion for the contruction work of the new ultra modern Civil Service College, Abuja.

She also gave the contractors handling the project up till March 31, 2008 within which to complete work on the site. "If it means working 24 hours you have to do so", she stressed.

Engineer Okeke was on an inspection tour of the multi-million naira project to ascertain first the level of work being done by the various contractors handling the project and as well see areas that requires alignment and corrections.

She stated that the college was iniated by the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo and expressed worry that the college which is designed to train high-level civil servants from grade levels 15 and above including permanent secretaries was billed to take off last February but failed because of the slow pace of the work at the site.

She explained that while the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) would take care of the training of the Civil servants from grade levels 7 to 14, the Civil Service College would be specifically for the training of Directors, Permanent Secretaries and other management staff.
