Unilorin students complain of academic pressure

FOLLOWING the pressure being expe rienced by 100 Level students of the University of Ilorin, thousands of the students have gone for fresh Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms as a panic measure to beat the institution.

Nigerian Tribune investigations showed that the students complained of pressure being mounted on them in their academic programmes. Sources at the institution told the Nigerian Tribune that the academic programmes which were supposed to run for four months per semester were being run for two months without any reasons from the school authorities.

It was gathered that during the first semester examination, two students collapsed as a result of academic pressure. Some of the students who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on the condition of anonymity said the situation had become too tough for the students as they were subjected to too much rigours.

“Can you imagine that a semester which is supposed to run for four months is being run for two months without any cogent reasons from the authorities for such move. “For instance, two students collapsed during the first semester examination as a result of pressure.

This has prompted some of us to obtain JAMB forms as the only alternative to beat the pressure,” one of the students said. Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Information of the institution, Alhaji Isiaka Aliagan, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on the matter, said the institution believed in high standard.

“Students have normal hours of lectures. Serious students should be able to cope,” he said.
