Clubs to visit this weekend

By David Ajiboye

De Executive Suites Nite Club
This is the only Nite Club in Ibadan with indoor swimming pool. Located at No 1, Oba Akenzua Avenue, old Bodija clubbing activities at this club is every Friday and it’s free to members while non-members will have to pay.

Rated the best in Ibadan because of the calibre of people that patronise the place, it remains the safest of the nite clubs in the city.

Atlantic Bar
Dreadfully load Afro-beat - great if you like that sort of thing. Your driver will know where it is, best to get there at midnight or so when you're already half drunk so you won't buy too many drinks. Just dance to the music, or hang out - you probably won't get hassled by hookers or dope dealers, unlike most other places.

Not a bad place to hang out in Lagos, however watch out for those drink prices, could end up spending a small fortune, even for Nigerian standards.

Club Towers Prive
Classy night spot, open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Buffet included in the entrance fee.

Excellent decor and atmosphere with Hip-hop, R&B on Friday Saturday. Live music with the Shock Band on Wednesdays. Great night out.

The Motherlan'
Showcase of an African variation of mid tempo jazz. Owned by a Nigerian artiste called Lagbaja, a brilliant saxophonist known for performing on stage with local masquerade- style masks, this is a brilliant place to go and is frequented by foriegners.

Afrikan Shrine
Run by Femi Kuti (son of Fela), this is a great rock temple. The best night to go there is Sunday. When Femi is outside of the country the place can be rather empty, however, so you might want to check if he is around. The Shrine is located in a quiet street in Ikeja.

Le Merveille
Run by Prince Edward Okotiebor, the club is one of the very few that still boasts of high patronage in the city of Ibadan. Its location is an added advantage and boasts of a very good security personnel that makes it one of the safest nite clubs in the Oyo state capital.
