Anichebe voted Everton Young Player of the Year - Yakubu snubbed

NIGERIAN international, Yakubu Aiyegbeni was cospicously missing on Everton’s honours list on Wednesday night, though his compatriot Victor Anichebe was honoured by the Toffees.

Everton held its annual awards dinner at St George’s Hall in Liverpool, where versatile defender Joleon Lescott scooped an awards double, being voted the club’s Player of the Year by Toffees’ fans and also players’ Player of the Year.

Young striker Victor Anichebe, who debuted for Nigeria’s Under-23 team, the Dream Team IV in March in Abuja in a Beijing Olympics qualifier, was named Young Player of the Year as well as won the Shareholders’ Young Player of the Season trophy.

Despite scoring an impressive 19 goals for Everton this season in 41 appearances, Yakubu was overlooked for Lescott, who played 53 games for Everton this season and notched in nine goals.

Anichebe, was, however, compensated for his impressive perfomance for the Toffees this term, having had five goals to his credit in 40 appearances.
