EFCC quizzes Bafarawa

09.05.2008

IMMEDIATE past governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, on Wednesday, turned himself in following an invitation by the Economic and Finanacial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The spokesman for the anti-graft agency, Mr. Osita Nwajah, who denied the arrest of the governor, said Bafarawa reported to the EFCC headquarters by 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday. “If he was asked to report at the EFCC daily, that means we are not detaining him.

“I can also confirm that the former governor was interrogated by our investigators for several hours until 7.00 p.m. “I am not at liberty to disclose the nature of the offence now but in due course, this will be made known,” Nwajah said.

Sources in Sokoto, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Bafarawa was directed by the EFCC to report daily to it while his passport had been seized.
