God’s blueprint for your marriage
Dear Reader,
The Bible presents marriage as a divine institution. If marriage were of human origin, then human beings would have a right to decide the kind of marital relationships to choose. Marriage, however, began with God. It was established by God at the beginning of human history, when He created the heavens and the earth.
As the originator of marriage, God has the right to tell us which principles should govern our marital relationships. This month, via God’s Word, I will be exploring God’s Blueprint for Your Marriage. This week, I will be teaching on Marriage – A Gift from God.
In the story of creation, God saw everything He spoke into existence. But when it came to the issue of marriage, He didn’t just speak it into existence.
He was practically involved in instituting it. Since He is Almighty, God could have simply said, “Let there be marriage” or “Let there be family life”, and marriage would have been instituted. Marital bliss depends on the place you give to God and His Word in your marriage. The more of Him you have, the more of peace, joy, happiness and sweetness you enjoy in your marriage.
Marriage is the oldest institution known to man. It dates back to creation in the Garden of Eden where God preformed the first marriage ceremony. He also gave away the first bride. On the sixth day of creation, having made Eden a home for man. The Word of God says: So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27).
After God made man, He knew man needed a companion, so He said to Himself:
“It is not good that man should be alone; I will make a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:18).
So the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall upon man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the Lord had taken from the man he made into woman and brought her to the man.
Then the man said, This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. Therefore a man leaves his Father and Mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh (Genesis 2:21-24).
Why should God take a rib from Adam’s perfect body to make a life companion for him? There must be a good reason for God doing this: He wanted man to know right from the beginning that his wife was truly a part of him, so that he would treat her as he would treat himself. Instantly, both realize that they belong to each other. We can see that God’s primary purpose for marriage was to make two people happy. He knew that by sharing life together, they will have the fullness of joy.
