FRSC to arrest motorists for arbitrary use of number plates

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) yesterday in Abuja said it would arrest motorists for the arbitrary use of official number plates.

A statement issued by Adamu Zakari, the Deputy Corps Commander, said the action became necessary as official number plates of government institutions were being used arbitrarily.

"This measure is to check the arbitrary use of state government, houses of assembly and local government official number plates on private vehicles for frivolous reasons,'' the statement said.

It directed all state commands to commence full enforcement by impounding such vehicles and confiscating the number plates.

The statement also directed that erring vehicle owners be fined appropriately.

It further urged government at all levels to assist the commission by preventing the arbitrary use of the number plates in their respective areas.
