Emir of Katsina passes away

THE Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Usman, is dead, according to sources at the National Hospital, Abuja.

The sources said the emir, who was 80, had been receiving treatment at the hospital in the last two years.

The body has been taken out of the hospital en route Katsina for burial later today. He ascended the throne in 1982.

Present at the hospital were the Sardauna of Katsina, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, the Secretary of the Katsina Emirate Council, Alhaji Sanusi Kabir Usman, a son-in-law of the late emir, Dr Lawal Gambo and Alhaji Wada Maida, former Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Others are Maj.-Gen. Ike Nwachukwu and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim
