Ekiti SUBEB boss warns teachers against indolence

CHAIRMAN of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has warned teachers in public primary schools in the state against laziness, truancy and lack of commitment to their profession.

Giving the warning while addressing the state chapter of the Conference of Head teachers of Nigeria (COPSHON), he said that the board would henceforth frown at any teacher found wanting in the discharge of his or her duty, stressing that it was high time they stopped playing with the future of the younger generation.

Stating that the state governor, Mr. Segun Oni, was not happy with the present state of primary education in the state, the SUBEB chairman said that the governor had a clear vision of developing Ekiti State in all ramifications, adding that primary education, being the bedrock of educational attainment of any child, should not be left behind in the crusade.

Describing the mass withdrawal of pupils from public primary schools in the state as indictment on the part of the teachers, he said, “I am not happy that parents are withdrawing their children from public schools to private ones despite the fact that public schools are more equipped, with better qualified teachers and better remunerations.”

Adeyeye explained that he was organizing series of meetings with the COPSHON members across the state, being the main actors in ensuring the success of the primary education sector, admonishing that they should imbibe the spirit of hardwork, dedication, discipline and commitment in order to rekindle the attributes that the state was noted for in the education sector.

Counselling teachers to change their dressing attitudes, he also said that the board would henceforth lay emphasis on their mode of dressing as it was done in the past when teachers were noted for their neatness and smartness, adding that good dressing sense was part of the educational legacy that can be bequeathed to pupils for their future sustenance.
