Nsukka Residents Rush For Voter Cards - In Anticipation Of Fresh Guber Election

09.02.2008

NSUKKA residents are now rushing to collect their permanent voter cards following the nullification of Gov. Sullivan Chime’s election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who monitored the exercise on Friday, reports of an impressive turn-out in all the places visited.

NAN reported that the people had shown total indifference toward the collection of their voter cards until the tribunal’s verdict for a fresh election.

Mr Edet Akpanike, INEC Electoral Officer in Nsukka said: “Since the beginning of the exercise on Jan. 8, we were only distributing one or two cards in all our collection centres.”

“But since the nullification of the election, we have started to witness an impressive response. “We now distribute up to 70 cards daily in each collection centre in the council areas,” he added.

Akpanike said that of the 174,000 registered voters, only about 2,000, permanent voter cards had so far been distributed.
