Obanikoro may be expelled - Lagos PDP chairman

Lagos State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Adebayo Williams, has said that the party’s governorship candidate in the last general election, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and some of his supporters risked being expelled from the party.

Addressing the press in Lagos, Williams said since Obanikoro lost in the election, he had become a dissident and going about embarrassing the party in the public and even in the media.

He explained that at no time was Obanikoro persuaded not to go against the election petition tribunal’s ruling as he claimed, but rather, he refused to appeal because of the overwhelming evidence which the Action Congress (AC) had against him.

He said the party could no longer tolerate the act of indiscipline exhibited by Obanikoro and some of his supporters because it was against the party’s constitution which all members swore to uphold.

Chief Williams explained that a disciplinary committee was set up to investigate the act of indiscipline and that the report of the committee was being considered.

“Appropriate action shall be taken. A disciplinary committee was set up by the state executive to look into the activities of these erring members.

“The report of the committee has been submitted and discussed extensively by members of the Central Working Committee and the state executive committee in accordance with the party’s constitutional provision,” he said.
