NLC holds mass rally tomorrow

THE Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said on Tuesday that it had concluded plans to hold a mass protest against corruption tomorrow. It has also advocated a ban of all those involved in the alleged fraud exposed in the power and oil sectors being probed by the National Assembly, from the governance of the country at all levels.

Addressing a press conference on the determination of the congress to hold a successful rally at the Labour House, Abuja, President of NLC, Comrade Abdulwahed Omar, said the protest was to compel President Umaru Yar’Adua to probe all those involved in fraud.

The NLC also called for a judicial commission of inquiry that could order the recovery of the stolen funds and dispense sanctions to all those involved no matter their previous or present positions in the country.

The protest, which will be held tomorrow at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, will take off from the Berger Roundabout junction and terminate at the Three Arms Zone.

Omar called on all Nigerians to identify with the labour movement by joining the protest, saying though the decision to organise a one-day protest rally was taken by the National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC, the congress had been in alliance with civil society groups and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Against this background, the NLC president said they expected a massive turn out.
