For quite some time, the Kaduna State Police Command had been receiving series of complaints from GSM security operators .Their GSM mast sites were being constantly vandalized by unknown persons thereby affecting their services nationwide.

Therefore, in line with its determination to ensure the security of lives and property in the state, the state police command last week paraded a gang who were alleged to have vandalized the GSM mast sites in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna state, Mr. Haz Iwendi said they were worried by complaints of the GSM operators which prompted the state command to spread its dragnet to monitor the mast sites within the state.
Their effort yielded positive results as detectives from the state CID mounted surveillance, arrested six suspects and recovered 69 solar powered batteries and one microwave equipment panel.

One of the arrested GSM vandals who gave his name as Danladi, explained that they used to remove solar powered batteries from GSM sites and sell them for between N2, 500 and N3, 000 to one Chidozi. His friend, Jimmy added that they used to visit the GSM mast site around 9 pm to remove the batteries. They, however, said that they only committed the act twice The Commissioner of Police also lamented the increasing cases of rape and defilement of underage girls in Kaduna State. Not long ago, he paraded a suspect who claimed to have raped a three-year old girl under the influence of alcohol. But last week, the state command paraded 7 suspects who have either raped or defiled under aged girls in the state.

According to the commissioner, “increasing cases of rape and defilement of underage and teenage girls are being reported. Today we shall be parading seven suspects who have either raped or defiled two-year, three-year or five-year old girls.”

He explained that the rapists included one Bashir Yusuf, 28, who accosted a four-year old girl on her way to buy matches for her mother and raped her. Others were Friday Efereha, 27, who lured an eight-year old to an uncompleted building at Unguwan Boro, Sabon Tasha and raped her.

Also, Salisu Moham-med and John Akpan whose gang-raped a 13- year old girl by luring her to a room and forcefully had sex with her and Ishaku Suleiman who lured three girls, gave them food and defiled them in turns at Rimin Kanbari in Zaria. The girls were aged two, three and five-years old respectively.

Also paraded were one Mohammed Sani, 19 who lured a seven-year old with biscuits and forcefully had sex with her at Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Tudun Wada Kaduna, and 24-year old Hassan Mohammed of Shika Road in Tudun Wada, Kaduna who lured eight- year old girl with biscuits and had sex with her at Shettima Road, Tudun Wada Kaduna.

The commissioner therefore appealed to parents and guardians to take special interest in their female wards, saying “we have now seen the effect of sending children to hawk where they often fall prey to these rapists.

“We also want to advise parents to be on the look-out for supposed guardians and senior brothers of some of our young girls because it was discovered that some of them take advantage of these young girls and defile them, he added.

The suspects, he said, had all confessed and would be arraigned before the court for prosecution. He therefore reiterated that the battle against men of the underworld would continue while the command would not relent in its fight against violent crimes until it succeeded in making Kaduna a crime-free state.
