Why we sacked 23 doctors - JUTH

THE Chief Medical Director of Jos Uni versity Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr. Ishaya Pam, has declared that the 23 members of the striking Resident Doctors of the hospital were sacked to instill discipline in the system.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Jos, Dr. Pam debunked the claim by the state chairman of the Association of Resident Doctors that 60 members of the association were sacked by the management, adding the 23 sacked were those on supernumerary and extension programmes at the hospital.

According to him, by virtue of their position, they were not expected to join the ongoing strike, adding that since they abdicated their duty posts and training, the management had no choice but to send back to their sponsors. The CMD, who said residents doctors had caused so much disaffection within the system by their propaganda, added that their motive for the strike had gone beyond the CONTISS they were allegedly fighting for.

“ Many eminent citizens of this country have appealed to them to sheath their swords and return to work but they refused, they want me to pay them money I did not receive. From all indications, their motive is different, they are simply being sponsored to truncate the system,” he said.

On the permanent site of the teaching hospital, Dr. Pam disclosed that the management has commenced movement and described it as a milestone in the history of the tertiary institution.
