Modibbo hands over former AGF’s office complex to Police

Bankole Makinde, Abuja - 07.03.2008

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, on Thursday handed over the former office of the Accountant –General of the Federation to the Inspector General of Police.

While performing the ceremony in Garki, in Abuja, Dr. Umar said the gigantic structure would spur the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force to greater heights, charging the Police to see the gesture as a challenge to make Abuja safer.

The Minister said he had been working closely with the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to stem crime and criminality in the Territory since he took over its mantle of leadership and that the result has been very impressive.

Dr. Umar also lamented the unfortunate robbery incidents that claimed the lives of NFL Accountant and an Assistant Director in the FCT Administration, assuring that efforts would be redoubled not to allow such incident repeat itself.

The Minister reiterated that there is no hiding place for criminals in the FCT because no criminal would get away in Abuja with his/her anti-social behavior; emphasizing that “we are equal to the task and we are on top of the situation.”

The Minister said some money had been earmarked in the 2008 FCT Budget to upgrade some facilities and infrastructure of the Nigeria Police Force in the Territory.
