Adamu debunks Vogts’ threat

National Sports Commission Director-General, Dr Amos Adamu has debunked reports about threat by the Super Eagles coach, Berti Vogts to throw in the towel over delay in the payment of his salary.

Adamu, said he spoke with Vogts but the coach did not tell him about any troubles with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), while the German started a training session with 13 players in Malaga.

Adamu expressed dismay with what he described as distraction for Nigeria’s hopes of lifting the Nations Cup in Ghana. When you have a major championship as this, many people will try to destabilise your team. I ask you, is it possible for Vogts to be in Malaga working to get the Super Eagles ready for the Nations Cup if he was being owed salary?

“Some people just want to cause confusion where there is no trouble and I don’t know what they stand to gain. There is peace in the Eagles’ camp,” said Adamu. Meanwhile, a spokesman of the corporate body paying the salary of Berti Vogts has said that the German is being owed a month’s salary, but added that it was due to bureaucracy in fixing a tax waiver on the remuneration.

The official also revealed that the tax board has agreed to a waiver for Vogts, but the NFA has not filed the papers that would ensure a tax-free salary for the coach.
