Police arrest woman over N5m fraud

A middle-aged woman, Mrs. Faith Samuel, has been arrested and detained by the Ekiti State Police Command for attempting to defraud her husband of N5 million.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yomi Onasile, told journalists on Sunday in Ado Ekiti that the woman had pretended to her Lagos-based husband that she was pregnant for nine months.

But when Faith was due for delivery, rather than contact Samuel, she raised a false alarm to the police, claiming that her one-month old baby had been kidnapped by unknown persons.

She reportedly told the wealthy husband that the child abductors were demanding a N5 million ransom to release the baby.

A bewildered Samuel, who suspected foul play, consequently reported the matter to the police, who later swung into action.

Luck ran out for Faith when in the course of police investigation, a doctor’s examination revealed that she had never been pregnant.

Onasile said that Faith would soon appear in court for attempted fraud and raising of false alarm to the police.
