Okiro to meet EFCC policemen today

THE Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, will today meet with the over 391 policemen attached to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The meeting, earlier scheduled for last Thursday, could not hold as some of the policemen claimed that they did not get the information inviting them to the meeting.

However, following the allegation of inadequate publicity for the meeting, the IGP directed a Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onovo, to send out signals to all the affected policemen to attend the briefing.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that despite the fact that the meeting did not hold, some of the policemen attached to EFCC and some from the outstations attended and registered their presence.

The disobedience of Okiro’s order on the meeting, the Nigerian Tribune gathered, was one of the issues discussed last Friday when President Umaru Yar’Adua summoned the EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu, to the Aso Rock Villa.

It was also gathered that the EFCC boss had directed all the policemen attached to EFCC to attend the meeting slated for today at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The meeting, the source disclosed, was to brief the policemen on recent developments in the commission and to explain to them why Ribadu was being sent on a one-year course at the Nigeria Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (nipss), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, to further develop himself.

Also, the meeting is to allay the fear of the policemen that they will be deployed if Ribadu leaves for the course.
